JOSHUA J BERRY HEALING ARTS

Joshua J Berry Healing arts:

EMBODIED HEALING ARTS & ALCHEMICAL COACHING

Advanced Bodywork, Energy Healing, Somatic Embodiment, Wu Dang Tai Ji, Qi Gong, Yi Jing, Divination, Meditation, Hatha Yoga Movement and Mobility work from 20 years of embodied practice.

I offer a chance to dive deep into who you are, allowing me to guide  you on the path to empowerment, embodiment and self creation; back into yourself. I use many tools that I have learned along the way to hold a space for discovery and guidance along our journey together.

For a long time I did bodywork to get rid of your pain. I burnt myself out because I was giving too much, and hurting myself in the process. I realized I was coming from a childhood wound of wanting to take care of everyone else so I could feel safe, but I wasn't honoring myself. I made people feel great, but it didn't last. I wasn't teaching them to listen to themselves, how to feel the unloved parts of themselves. We have to integrate the light and the dark, the shadows and the light. I wasn't giving them the tools to heal.

I offer more than bodywork,  more than just energy work. I offer a sacred container to alchemize our pain, our discomfort our trauma into fuel for change.  This isn't just physical. It is on multiple levels. Everyone is unique in their experiences, their cultural background, their stories their ancestral and societal influences. We are all on different paths, but we all deserve to be happy, to create a life that inspires us and joyful. We all have experienced traumas and dysregulated nervous systems. we all have experienced separation, loss and We are in a time of great upheaval, where old systems of control, isolation, competition and orce are giving way to systems based on cooperation, community and softness.

I want to cheer you on, but not with blind enthusiasm promising unattainable goals. When we make a promise to really look at ourselves and become who we really are it is not always pretty. there is not always obvious results. I don't want you to just do your homework, I want you to make a promise to show up for yourself in whatever way you can. It might just be finding what that looks like. I am just a student who has decided to teach from what I know. I teach from my wide range of experience, but I am still learning. I learn form relationship, from community. You are helping me along my path as well.

I do believe we all have medicine to share , a unique voice and reason that we are here in the physical plane. I do believe that many of us have lost connection to the natural and supernatural worlds and by extension ourselves, our spirit, the part of us that knows why we came here. many of us are in pain, whether it be physical, emotional,

I know for me it has meant truly feeling all the parts of me that have been left behind, buried, hurt, shamed, traumatized and just plain ignored. These aspects of myself were being asked, calling out to be seen and felt, to be brought out of the darkness into the light. I avoided feeling the things that were uncomfortable. it took me a long time to acknowledge them and I kept repeating them in unconscious patterns. I have had to look at and reflect upon my own  beliefs, thoughts, relationships, partnerships and behaviors.  I still do. I never want to stop learning and growing.

What that will look like for you is going to be your creation.

I know that many of us are being called to rise up into a new way of being, a new earth, to shed the patterns of a patriarchal, industrialized world where many of us have become disconnected from the natural world, the world of magic, spirit and play and ultimately disconnected to our own divine power and knowing. I am here for those that are being called to reclaim their sovereignty, reclaim their own wisdom free from limiting and harmful practices.

Covid -19 Update. As of May 18th,  Governor Abbot has legally released Massage Therapists to work. I also understand that not everyone is so keen to get back to "normal" and are concerned about safety, among other things.  There are a lot of feelings around the Pandemic and a lot of us have been through quite a shift in the last few months. On my end my Partner and I have no childcare for the moment. So, I am slowly opening up my schedule as we figure out things moving ahead. It is easier to reach out to me directly to schedule right now (text, email or phone) instead of scheduling online since there are a lot of moving parts on my end.

I am also offering live and livestream yoga classes through Yoga East Austin (www.yogaeastaustin.com). You can check their website to get an up to date schedule. I will continue to update the situation as it evolves. I hope everyone is staying as safe and healthy as possible.

I am grateful for all of you who have supported me over the years. It means a lot to me and my family.

With Gratitude,
Joshua

Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT #103347), Certified Myoskeletal Alignment Therapist, Wu Dang External Qi Healer, Wu Dang Tai Ji Instructor, Yi Jing Consultant, Chi Nei Tsang Practitioner, Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200)

Joshua offers transformative healing services to help you live life fully. He is a gifted bodyworker well versed in the physical and energetic arts. He is a seasoned movement artist with a background in Qi Gong, Tai Ji, Capoeira, Yoga as well as a mix of other martial arts, dance and  shamanic practices. He is passionate about helping you be present in your body and offering guidance on how to maintain your health and balance.

His Bodywork and Therapeutic Massage addresses the fascia, muscles and connective tissue to help you find structural balance. He primarily uses Myofascial Release, Myoskeletal Alignment Technique, various forms of Active Therapy, Chi Nei Tsang (Chinese Visceral Qi Gong Massage), Zero Balancing, CranioSacral Therapy and a wide variety of influences he has picked up over the years. He is heavily influenced by Thomas Myers and his Anatomy Trains for a structural, more western view, but is heavily influenced by Traditional Chinese Medicine's model of the Five Elements, Yin and Yang and the system of meridians on the energetic, more Eastern side of things. By bringing the structure of the body back into balance, we allow ourselves the support and ease that we need to create healthy movement. By engaging and addressing how we approach the more subtle ways in which we use our energy, we create peace of mind, balance and harmony.

Joshua has extensive experience with chronic and acute pain issues such as:
low back pain
sciatic pain
neck pain
shoulder pain
knee pain
scoliosis
pre - surgery preparation (knee and hip replacements, spinal surgeries)
post surgerical recovery (laminectomies, spinal fusions, knee and hip replacements)

nerve impingement issues
golfer's/tennis elbow

post abdominal surgery recovery (c-section, hernia, hysterectomy)

CranioSacral Therapy (CST)is a light touch therapy, based on Cranial Osteopathy, that can create dramatic improvements in your life. It is a gentle , hands on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the Craniosacral system, comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch, generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the Craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. By complementing the body's natural healing process, CST is increasingly used as a preventative health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.

External Qi Healing (EQH) is an ancient Shamanic Taoist Healing art. It uses the Qi (bioelectric energy of the body and the universe) to free up energetic and physical blocks in the body. This often creates a felling of wellbeing, ease, clarity and focus while energizing the whole system. It is an ancient art that utilizes the abundant energy of the natural world to help ourselves heal. It draws upon the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Taoist philosophy. It also is great for people who are very sensitive to touch and who finds more traditional bodywork overwhelming or aggressive. This system has been passed down from Master Yun Xiang Tseng (Chen), 14th generation Zhang San Feng lineage, 25th generation Dragon Gate branch (Longmen sect) lineage, authorized to practice and teach the authentic Wu Dang Taoist teachings that have passed on in an unbroken living tradition for 700 years.

EQH can be beneficial for people who are feeling stuck in any areas of their lives, for those who suffer lingering pain or health issues that don't seem to go away with little to no help from Western Medicine or pharmaceutical treatments. I have found it in my practice
(in conjunction with psychotherapy or somatic therapy) to be very useful for people who have been through traumatic events such as a sudden loss of a loved one or depression. It resets the nervous system allowing the body to relax, and strengthens the immune system.

Chi Nei Tsang is an Asian form of bodywork that uses Taoist concepts of looking at the internal organs, their associated meridians and emotions. It addresses the internal organs of the body with a gentle form of manipulation that frees up the fascia, lymph and nerves around the internal organs. Key in the training of  Chi New Tsang is the use of Qi Gong (Qi: the Chinese concept of bioelectric energy, Gong: the continued, diligent practice of something in order to attain a high level of skill ) to energetically affect the balance of the organs. In Taoist Medicine (from Ancient Chinese culture) the organs can be affected by emotions, the surrounding environment and by diet among other things. Of course it is also very beneficial for those that have digestion issues, Crohn's Disease, IBS, those who have had abdominal surgeries, or women who have had children, whether Cesearean or Natural. It is very useful for breaking up adhesions in the abdominal fascia and for making space around the organs, which is especially beneficial after pregnancy.
It can be very helpful for anyone who is seeking balance and awareness in their body, mind and spirit

Tai Ji and Qi Gong teaches you how to build and harness your energy while re-establishing healthy movement patterns. It is an ancient system that develops coordination, balance, freedom of movement and focus. Joshua teaches the Wudang style of Tai Ji and Qi Gong as taught to him by Master Yun Xiang Tseng (Chen). It is excellent for people who are looking for balance and ease in their life, no matter what age or level of health. It is a great compliment to athletes to train with more ease and flow. It greatly improves any other physical activity while giving your mind space to enjoy the experience. It is a practice that know no boundaries and limit of depth.

Hatha Yoga and Pranayama can help free up the physical body to make space in the body and build your strength, balance and equilibrium. It is an ancient tool that helps cultivate the coordination of breath and movement, and for finding the balance between strength and flexibility. It opens up energy and emotions in the body allowing for ease of movement and an ease to the flow of your life. Pranayama is the science of breath that helps us open up our energy centers (cakras) and helps us activate and strengthen untapped energy.

Yi Jing (or I Ching) is known as The Book Of Changes. It is one of the oldest known written manuscripts in the world. It is based on an ancient system of divination that gives you insight and direction into  to the many choices we have to make on  a daily basis. It also gives you self knowledge into the strength and weaknesses of your personality, unique gifts and gives you ways to find balance. It gives you insight into the timing and  patterns of the universe and how they relate to you and your life. Joshua is a 26th Generation Long Men Yi Jing consultant.

What Our Clients Are Saying

"I've been seeing Joshua for a couple of years now. He provides a safe container, and a surprisingly broad frame of reference. He says just what I need to hear and responds to the changes in my physical experience with uncanny skill. His calm presence and devotion to his practice are complemented by the way (beyond my comprehension) he is able to "read" energy with his hands. My levels of pain and anxiety are reduced considerably and often entirely in these sessions." Pamela L
